Hyperloop Concept To Get Once Over by JumpStartFund

Hyperloop Concept To Get Once Over by JumpStartFund

The built-in process of the JumpStartFund platform intends to make this far more than just a discussion forum. Once the JumpStartFund community has aired the Hyperloop concept and expressed interest to get it to the next stages, members will be asked to collaborate on every aspect of bringing the concept to reality.

By its very name, JumpStarter Inc., you might get the picture that this start-up is offering another Kickstarter. Right? Wrong. Another Indiegogo. Right? Wrong. Its new platform JumpStartFund is designed to be a one-basket site that combines crowdfunding with crowdsourcing.

The goal is to lift great ideas off the restaurant napkin scribblings and out of the labs into products and systems that succeed in the real world.

On Thursday, JumpStarter announced it was reaching out to Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk's Hyperloop concept to place Hyperloop on its crowd-powered platform.

The Hyperloop 'project', it announced, will go through the platform's processes that access the power of the crowd to vote, comment, vet, refine, and affect ideas in development from conception to funding.

Through the Ringer

As for the idea portion of the process, this is where thoughts can get interesting from a rich mix of good thinkers who like to focus on the future in general to skilled engineers. There is no shortage of things to say about such a bold idea as Musk's when he presented his Hyperloop concept earlier this month.

The Hyperloop would be a high-speed transport system that would send people on their way in pods moving through tubes, whisking passengers from San Francisco to Los Angeles in a half-hour, at far less cost, $6 billion, than California's proposed high-speed rail system at $69 billion. The Hyperloop would use a combination of magnetic levitation and pneumatic technologies to achieve its high speeds.

The JumpStartFund platform intends to put Hyperloop through the ringer, poking at what people may think are big holes, hidden costs and other important points that need to be aired.

The built-in process of the JumpStartFund platform, meanwhile, intends to make this far more than just a discussion forum. Once the JumpStartFund community has aired the Hyperloop concept and expressed interest to get it to the next stages, the project will move into a "work in progress" state. This is when members will be asked to collaborate on every aspect of bringing the concept to reality.

Full Steam Ahead

That next stage involves market research, voting on important issues such as design, naming, manufacturing and marketing, and inventing more ways to use the idea. The stage would also involve forming a team surrounding its development.

Fundamentally, the JumpStartFund aims to bring the Hyperloop that much closer to reality as a unique transportation system for super-fast travel.

We believe the world is full of entrepreneurs that have great ideas but do not have the time or resources to make them a reality, said Dirk Ahlborn, CEO and co-founder of JumpStartFund, which launched Aug. 22.

As controversial as Musk's Hyperloop idea is, time will also reveal how far the JumpStartFund concept might go in making its own sort of history. The platform could define an improved method for driving The Next Big Things in technology from prototypes to products and systems that change the world.

The Power Mix

Ahlborn's site intends to not only help start-ups but to motivate forward thinkers to express opinions and give accredited investors access to technology opportunities.

JumpStartFund is described as an equity- and rewards-based crowdfunding platform. A key premise is the power of working in large groups to refine ideas. An added edge will be the ability to collaborate with the company's own experts. Its one-stew mix of crowd-sourcing with crowdfunding might prove to be a twist in not only launching great ideas but great start=ups.

The Hyperloop is an exciting idea but our BiModal Glideway would provide the same high speed travel while offering the freedom of a door to door commute, without the need to change trains, busses or leaving your car in an overcrowded, limited security parking station where it can be struck, broken into and possibly stolen.
