Interactive figurines called "Amiibo" were introduced during Nintendo's press event for the Wii U at E3. In an attempt to boost interest in the console, Nintendo has launched Amiibo, its version of Skylanders. The figurines will first work with Super Smash Bros., and gamers can tap the figurines onto the Nintendo GamePad to make characters appear in-game.

As usual, day one of the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) was filled with some of the gaming industry's biggest announcements. The event, which runs June 10-12 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, featured presentations on the first day from Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and many others, showing where they are heading over the next 12 months.

Each of the big players announced new games and devices to give gamers a preview of what to expect. Here's our take on ten of the biggest announcements from first day of the E3 Expo.

Destiny Bundle

Sony kicked off its presentation by announcing a new bundle that will include sci-fi shooter Destiny, a white PS4, and 30 days of PlayStation Plus. The beta version of Destiny will launch on July 17, but those who are interested can access the alpha version next week. Sony's Destiny bundle will be launching on September 9.

New PS4 Games

Trailers for multiple upcoming PS4 games were shown during Sony's presentation. Dead Island 2, Far Cry 4, Magicka 2, and Little Big Planet 3 received special treatment from the company. Little Big Planet 3 will launch with new characters, and Far Cry 4's co-op mode has been confirmed. All of the games will be released between late 2014 and mid 2015.

PlayStation Now Beta Expands

PlayStation Now, Sony's video game rental service, will enter into an open beta on the PS4 starting July 31. At least 100 titles will be available through Now when it launches. The service allows people to rent and stream games to their consoles.

Nintendo Amiibo

Interactive figurines called "Amiibo" were introduced during Nintendo's press event for the Wii U. In an attempt to boost interest in the console, Nintendo has launched Amiibo, its version of Skylanders. The figurines will first work with Super Smash Bros., and gamers can tap the figurines onto the Nintendo GamePad to make characters appear in-game.

New Legend of Zelda For Wii U

A new Legend of Zelda game will be coming to the Wii U. Nintendo said that it will be the first game in the franchise to feature an "open world." The game will be exclusive to the Wii U and will be released in 2015.

Call of Duty Will Favor Xbox One

As usual, Microsoft has signed an exclusive deal with Activision for the next Call of Duty game. DLC content for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will appear on the Xbox One well before it reaches other platforms.

Assassin's Creed: Unity Gameplay

The next-generation Assassin's Creed game was introduced during Ubisoft's presentation. Assassin's Creed: Unity is being developed for the Xbox One and PS4. Ubisoft said that there is a new focus on cooperative multiplayer with the game.

Halo Still Important

A large part of Microsoft's presentation centered around Halo, showing the continued importance of the franchise. Halo 5: Guardians was announced alongside Halo: The Master Chief collection, which includes all previous Halo content. TV series Halo Nightfall and a Halo 5 beta will launch on November 11.

EA: Battlefield and Sims

EA's presentation at E3 focused on Battlefield Hardline and Sims 4. Hardline is a cops vs. bad guys game that will support 32-person battles. Sims 4 is the latest addition to the Sims franchise, and EA said that it will launch on September 2.

Alienware Steam Machine

Valve Steam Machines are just beginning to surface, and Alienware introduced its own during E3. The Alienware Alpha will run Steam Big Picture until Valve can finish its official console operating system, SteamOS. The system will be available later this year beginning at $550.
