2014

Macworld/iWorld 2014 is underway at the Moscone Center North in San Francisco, March 27-29. Tens of thousands of people are flooding the venue to see what the organizer of the annual gathering, IDG World Expo, calls an event that highlights the intersection of creativity and technology coming out of the Apple-products marketplace.

App developers, enterprise IT professionals, and Apple-product consumers are on hand to see the latest and greatest -- and upcoming -- Apple-related apps and listen to the likes of Robert Scoble, Shel Israel, and Robyn Miller offer presentations that event organizers hope will drive buzz.

“On display will be some of the most cutting-edge apps, wearable devices, software and peripherals attendees have ever seen, including six of the hottest new products poised to break in 2014 as featured in our new ‘6 About To Break’ contest,” said Paul Kent, vice president and general manager of Macworld/iWorld.

6 About-To-Break Winners

This year, Macworld/iWorld joined forces with SF New Tech to reveal the first-ever "6 About To Break" competition. The contest invited developers to create the next big app, Apple-related accessory, software or utility. Finalists were selected for mobile, wearables, home automation, 3D and social media, and include: AppPresser, Everypost; Glyph; MotionPortrait; Petcube; and ReKognition. The winners: Avegant Glyph and Petcube.

Glyph is a wearable mobile personal theater device that sets the stage for users to experience media with life-like clarity and sound. Glyph's flip-down form factor, combined with its imagery and noise-canceling audio, is poised to make an impact on personal display technology.

Petcube is a home gadget that lets users watch, talk and play laser games with their pets through a mobile phone app. The Petcube device comes in a box that includes a laser pointer, wide-angle camera lens, speakers and Wi-Fi.

iBeacon Scavenger Hut

In the expo hall, attendees can interact with the newest iOS and OS X innovations at Appalooza. Developers are showcasing literally hundreds of apps spanning productivity, gaming, IT, education, music production and photography. What’s more, over 100 products are being highlighted as part of the event’s First Looks program.

Finally, you can find Passbook and iBeacon technology demonstrations at the event. Attendees can check in using Passbook technology in their iPhones. Attendees can also participate in the first official iBeacon Scavenger Hunt using Passbook technology.

The theme: The “30 Years of the Mac.” The scavenger hunt takes attendees through a series of clues found on posters throughout the expo hall. Participants who collect all four beacon-enabled passes will receive gifts and will be entered into a drawing for a MacMania cruise to the British Isles.
