New iPads Likely To Debut at Apple Event Oct. 22
Although the details are still being kept under wraps, it appears as though Apple will be announcing its next-generation iPads on Oct. 22. A lot is already happening on that day, between Nokia World and the release of Microsoft
's Surface 2 tablets, so Apple's event will surely be competing for attention.
Nothing is guaranteed, but sources close to Apple are telling technology publications that the new iPads, OS X Mavericks, and a new Mac Pro will all be announced during the event. This announcement date does go along with previous iPad events as well as rumors that first appeared nearly six months ago.
The New iPads: What Will Be Different?
A new full-size iPad as well as a mini are expected to make an appearance during the event, and outside of the usual dimension upgrades, may include a fingerprint sensor similar to the iPhone 5s. The invitation-only event will definitely see some major announcements, considering how anxious people are to check out the new Mac Pro.
Apple's new iPad is said to weigh about the same as the current iPad mini and may also be a bit thinner than previous versions. Along with the appearance changes, Apple is said to be including an A7 processor in the full-size iPad as well, which will noticeably increase its performance.
Colors are another big change for the iPad. Sources are saying that while Apple will not come out with a full array of color options, it will include chrome and gold versions, like the iPhone 5s.
The iPad mini -- which became a fan favorite in the small-tablet market -- will be outfitted with similar processor upgrades as well as a Retina display, according to current reports. Nothing has been confirmed, but rumors surrounding a potential Touch ID sensor in the new iPads continue to make headlines.
With the success of Touch ID in the new iPhone 5s, it makes sense that Apple would utilize the technology as much as possible in order to bring more upgrades to the iPads.
Mac Pro on the Way
Whether or not Apple will finally unveil a new Mac Pro and provide details as to how much it will cost and when it will be available has yet to be seen. However, sources close to the company have mentioned that the high-end computer should be getting some stage time during the Oct. 22 event.
That being said, other analysts seem to disagree. Many now believe the Mac Pro will stay hidden until December and a release will not occur until 2014. Most analysts seem to agree on the 2014 release date for the Mac Pro but there is a possibility we will get a glimpse of the computer in just a couple of weeks.
Apple first unveiled a series of photos for the Mac Pro earlier this year, but has stayed quiet about the computer since then.
