Looking for a tech job? Wondering which tech companies are the best ones to work for and why? Fortune magazine just announced its 16th annual list of the "100 Best Companies To Work For," including a number of tech titans and technology innovators.
We sorted through their rankings to find which tech companies made the grade. Read on for the list and some of the reasons these tech companies have made it to the top.
Google Ranks First
It seems everybody and their brother wants to work for Google. What makes Google so great? Fortune writes: "The Internet juggernaut takes the Best Companies crown for the fourth time, and not just for the 100,000 hours of subsidized massages it doled out in 2012." New this year are three wellness centers and a seven-acre sports complex, which includes a roller hockey rink; courts for basketball, bocce and shuffle ball; not to mention the horseshoe pits.
With an estimated total of 34,311 employees, Google is based in Mountain View, California, and is taking the top spot on Fortune's Best Companies list now four years in a row.
SAS Gets Creative
SAS Institute was third on Fortunes' list last year and now ranks second among all companies. Based in Cary, North Carolina, SAS develops software for data analytics and data management . SAS has a corporate culture described by one employee as "creative anarchy" that is especially conducive to innovation.
The company has 6,373 employees in the U.S. with another 6,481 employees worldwide, and was one of the first tech companies to offer on-site childcare as a benefit for employees.
NetApp Ranks Sixth
Based in Sunnyvale, California, data storage company NetApp believes in recognizing its employees for a job well done. According to Fortune, "Vice chairman Tom Mendoza asks managers to notify him when they 'catch someone doing something right' and then calls 10 to 20 employees every day to thank them."
Fortune reports NetApp has 7,426 employees in the U.S. plus 4,723 outside the U.S.
Ultimate Software in Top 10
Ranking ninth and headquartered in Weston, Florida, with close to 1,500 employees, Ultimate Software develops people management software, with customers like Google, Quicken Loans, and the New York Yankees.
Fortune reports that the company covers 100 percent of health care premiums for its employees and dependents, and treats workers to a free vacation every two years. (continued...)
