HP Launches Services to Support Workday HR

The largest deployment of Workday yet was rolled out by HP for its own use, covering more than 300,000 employees in over 100 countries in an on-premises implementation. "Given the sheer size and scale of HP, an on-premises, enterprise implementation project of this scope could take up to three years to complete," said HP's Scott Spradley.
 



Hewlett-Packard is out with its Enterprise Applications Services for Workday to help customers integrate and maintain the cloud-based human capital management service. In its announcement on Tuesday, HP pointed out that it is Workday's single biggest customer.

Workday Human Capital Management (HCM) is offered by that Pleasanton, California-based company, and it provides human resources, payroll and talent management in one system in the cloud. HP's role with its new service is to provide functional configuration, technology integration, change management, testing and program management to make sure, as HP says on its Web site, that "Workday data connects to the right endpoints."

Specifically, the company said its services include upgrading the existing legacy HCM solution; developing an overall enterprise cloud strategy; integrating with other enterprise applications and databases; working with strategies for mobile, Big Data, social and enterprise security; implementing a model for ongoing management; and providing capabilities for adaptation to new business requirements.

Largest Deployment

HP itself has rolled out the largest deployment of Workday yet, covering more than 300,000 employees in more than 100 countries in an on-premises implementation. HP CIO of Global Functions Scott Spradley said in a statement that, "given the sheer size and scale of HP, an on-premises, enterprise implementation project of this scope could take up to three years to complete, from design to launch."

Instead, Spradley said, HP delivered Workday to its own workforce in 14 months, "resulting in a significant upgrade in efficiency, usability, capability and satisfaction across the entire scope of employee and manager self-services."

Laura DiDio, an analyst with industry research firm Information Technology Intelligence Consulting, told us that, "over the past eight to 10 years, the services portion of HP has been eclipsed by the headlines about management tumult at the company." She added that such services are needed, since "people simply don't have the time to manage and maintain these systems."

Other HP Fronts

Founded in 2005, Workday is a leading provider of enterprise cloud applications for human resources and finance, covering the needs of such departments as Human Capital Management, Financial Management, Payroll, Time Tracking, Procurement, and Employee Expense Management.

HP has also been busy on a variety of other fronts, as it seeks to regain its footing in several markets. The company has introduced a potentially revolutionary product, The Machine, which may be able to replace an entire data center with a single, refrigerator-size piece of equipment. The new product utilizes a new kind of computer architecture, a new operating system, a different kind of memory, and very fast transfer of data.

Last week, HP showed at a trade show in San Diego two new large-format printers, part of the company's effort to expand its large-format printing offerings. And this week it introduced the global, open HP Helion Network to provide a secure, hybrid IT environment for service providers, including independent software vendors, developers, system integrators and value-added resellers.
