Symbian 3 Is Now Fully Open Source Mobile Firefox Runs on Nokia N900 Wal-Mart Prepares To Sell Nexus One Internet Limits Worry Mozilla Leader New Chrome 4 Browser Released Firefox 3.6 Boosts Speed, Security It's official -- and ahead of schedule. The Symbian mobile operating system is now completely open source, and the Symbian Foundation has released Symbian 3, the latest version of the platform. Mozilla has released a mobile version of its Firefox browser for users of Nokia's N900 smartphone, which runs the handset maker's Maemo OS. The browser is built on the Firefox 3.6 engine. In a move that could invigorate weak sales of Google's Nexus One smartphone, Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, appears ready to start selling the device, reportedly as low as $99. The leader of the Mozilla Project, whose Firefox browser now has 350 million users, said she is concerned that legal restrictions could limit Internet expansion, making it difficult to run an open network. In the highly publicized aftermath of an Internet Explorer vulnerability that opened the door for malicious attacks on Google, the search giant has rolled out a new release of its Chrome browser. Mozilla has released the first update to its popular Firefox browser since early summer.
