Fortune's 2013 list of the "100 Best Companies To Work For" includes many power hitters from the tech industry, with Google in the top spot, followed by tech titans Cisco, Intel, Microsoft, SAS, Qualcomm, Salesforce.com, and Intuit, as well as Rackspace, NetApp, and Hitachi Data Systems -- with industry darling Apple notably absent.

Two-thirds of a company's score is based on the results of the Institute's Trust Index survey, which was sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The survey asks questions related to employee attitudes about management's credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie.

The other third is based on responses to the Institute's Culture Audit, which includes questions about pay and benefit programs, plus a series of open-ended questions about hiring practices, internal communication, training, recognition programs, and diversity efforts.

Any company that is at least five years old and has more than 1,000 U.S. employees is eligible to participate. The deadline for applying for next year's list is July 1, 2013, with online nomination forms available on the Great Place to Work Institute website.
