Qualcomm Moves Up List
Based in beautiful San Diego, California, Qualcomm ranked 23rd on last year's list of best companies to work for. Now, the company has edged up to number 11, with 15,693 employees in the U.S. and another 8,675 worldwide.
The wireless technology company encourages employees to share ideas, particularly at its annual in-house tech conference, with rewards attached. In 2012, Qualcomm engineers submitted nearly 200 papers, and winners were then asked present at the forum and participate in followup speaking events.
Salesforce .com's Fifth Year Listed
Ranking 19th, and moving up from spot 27 last year, the CRM software developer and cloud -computing pioneer offers tons of perks, Fortune reports, including free yoga classes, 48 hours of paid time to volunteer, a $100 monthly wellness benefit, iPhone reimbursement, and a quarterly companywide forum. Salesforce.com is based in San Francisco, California, and according to Fortune, has 5,474 employees in the U.S., plus 3,069 outside the U.S.
Kate FitzGerald, who is VP of Worldwide Sales, Service Cloud, attributes part of the company's success to teamwork and motivation. "Salesforce.com has always done a good job building teamwork and making people feel part of the results. This not only makes people more engaged, but reinforces their self-worth and continued motivation."
Intuit Interests Employees
Another California company based in Mountain View made the list: Intuit, maker of QuickBooks and TurboTax accounting software, is high on the list of best companies to work for, ranking 22nd.
Intuit encourages employees to spend 10 percent of their time pursuing projects they're passionate about. The best idea won a million bucks last year. The company employs 7,405 in the U.S. plus another 970 worldwide.
World Wide Technology Wins
Coming in at number 24, World Wide Technology provides high-tech gear and services. The company, based in St. Louis, Missouri, does well by its employees and has made the list 2 years in a row now.
Fortune says World Wide Technology gives 3 percent of net income profit sharing and matches 100 percent of employee contributions to 401(k) plans, up to 6 percent of pay. Roughly 1,845 employees are with the company, located primarily in the U.S.
