International IT company expansion in Melbourne delivers jobs -- * Software company’s Melbourne expansion into new building creates additional 100 work stations * Providing software support for customers in 140 countries * Victorian Coalition Government attracting investment that delivers jobs

San Francisco-based IT company Zendesk is expanding its Asia Pacific Development Centre into a new building in Melbourne to create capacity for an additional 100 work stations.

Speaking at Zendesk’s Melbourne office in Bourke Street, Minister for Technology Gordon Rich-Phillips said the Napthine Government had worked closely with Zendesk.

“Victoria’s very strong IT skills base, outstanding R&D capabilities and growing strengths in areas like cloud computing and data analytics brought Zendesk here to expand its international software development team,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.

“Zendesk established its Asia Pacific headquarters in Melbourne in 2011 and its Asia Pacific Development Centre in 2012. It has doubled its Melbourne work force from 20 to 40 employees in the past year.”

Mr Rich-Phillips said Zendesk developed a cloud-integrated software solution that provides helpdesk ticketing, issue tracking and customer service support for more than 40,000 customers in 40 languages in 140 countries.

“Today, Zendesk has more than 1,500 customers in Australia and New Zealand and its Melbourne-based team is developing new products such as Zendesk Insights to help companies measure the impact of customer service interactions,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.

“The company’s expansion highlights our state’s growing attractiveness as a destination for IT investment in the Asia Pacific region.”

Founded in Copenhagen in 2007, Zendesk relocated its headquarters to San Francisco in 2009, currently has 600 employees and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange this May. It has software development centres in five locations worldwide, including Melbourne.

Mr Rich-Phillips said the Napthine Government will continue to work hard to make Victoria a leading technology hub that attracts companies like Zendesk.

“Since coming to office, this government has helped to facilitate over $1 billion in technology related investment, which has created 4,700 jobs,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.
