The software group that wants to buy the Pirate Bay file sharing site suffered a new setback Friday when a creditor asked a Swedish court to declare Global Gaming Factory X (GGF) bankrupt, a news report said.
Johan Sellstrom, a former board member of GGF, filed the suit after failing to get an outstanding debt of some 1.3 million kronor (200,000 dollars) paid, the Svenska Dagbladet newspaper reported.
GGF, which operates a network of Internet cafes and game centers, said in a brief statement that it contested the claim from Sellstrom and Advatar Systems, the report said.
In June, GGF said it made an offer to buy the Pirate Bay Web site for 60 million kronor of which half was in the form of new shares.
Doubts have been raised about GGF's ability to raise the capital. Earlier in September, GGF was delisted from the Equities Market Place, a small bourse aimed at developing entrepreneurial businesses.
The Pirate Bay Web site has been at the center of controversy about file sharing for some time. In April, a Stockholm district court sentenced four men to year-long jail terms for operating the Web site. Citing that the site allowed illegal file sharing, the court ordered the four to pay damages.
The defendants have appealed their sentences and called for a retrial. A tentative trial date has been set for mid-November.
