iPhone iOS 4 Complaints Could Be Apple iPhone iOS 4 Complaints Could Be Apple's 'Vistagate'

Complaints about Apple's iOS 4 update are rolling in from iPhone 3G and 3GS users who say their phones are slower and battery time is less. Even upgrading to iOS 4.0.1 doesn't seem to fix the iPhone problems. iOS 4.0.1 doesn't seem to be compatible with the iPhone 3G and an analyst said iOS 4 could become Apple's version of Windows Vista.

Just when you thought it was safe to turn on your iPhone ... Antennagate may be over, but complaints are now rolling in from iPhone 3G Relevant Products/Services users who downloaded the latest Apple mobile Relevant Products/Services operating system.

There are reports that upgrading the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS to iOS 4 causes the phone to drag and the battery to run out more quickly. Apple has said it is investigating the issue, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

"My I-phone 3G was running perfectly fine, till I updated to OS 4, it's been slower than the slowest, and even turns itself off at anytime, during browsing and even during calls. I updated to 4.0.1 only to improve things a little bit. Still the problems persist," wrote a user from India who calls himself I-Phone 4.0.1 bugs. "Am cursing myself why I updated it."

Worldwide Complaints

The problem isn't confined to Asia. Users in the United States are reporting the same issues. Some say the iPhone 3GS now "stutters." Others say the iPod capabilities on the phone are "completely busted." Still others report the updated iPhones won't go to the home screen and take 30 seconds to respond to various commands.

One forum complainer named "Savvytraveller" said his apps are crashing or just freezing after the upgrade to iOS 4.0.1. This same users reports the handset is getting hot. The complaints go on and on, giving Apple another headache after the iPhone 4 case giveaway just eased the last one.

Indeed, this isn't what Apple expected when it touted iOS 4, the newest version of the iPhone mobile operating system with the much-anticipated multitasking. Many iPhone 3GS users upgraded to tap into the multitasking capabilities, which promise to let users switch between apps while preserving battery life.

iOS 4 also offers a new Folders capability that lets users organize apps into collections by dragging and dropping. On Apple's web site, the company promises, "The iOS 4.0.1 Software Update improves the formula to determine how many bars of signal strength to display on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 3G. The real signal strength remains the same, but the bars on iPhone will indicate it more precisely."

Apple's Vista?

But iOS 4.0.1 doesn't seem to be perfectly compatible with the 3G model. Rob Enderle, principal analyst at the Enderle Group, said the new OS is really starting to become Apple's version of Microsoft Windows Vista, a platform that plagued the software giant for months and will go down in history as a faux pas.

"Apple may have become too comfortable in its leadership, and now we are getting complaints ranging from iTunes being out of date to these new software-hardware problems with the 3G," Enderle said. "What we may be seeing is that Apple was too dominant for too long, and like Microsoft when they hit Windows Vista, didn't realize that they weren't invulnerable. The end result has been a problematic platform."

What can Apple do to emerge from the negative tide it finds itself in? As Enderle sees it, Apple needs to admit it made a mistake, stop making mistakes, and, "like Microsoft eventually did with Vista, fix it."

My iPhone 3GS does the same thing since I downloaded the new software. We should get some kind of refund from apple, because we are all paying for things we are not getting anymore. My husbands iPhone does the same thing.. My apps crash, my phone is sooo slow, & by noon my battery is dead. This is ridiculous, and you would think apple would be better than that.

Apple is really trying to pull something on this one. They insisted my daughter do the upload to the 4 on her 3g before sending it in for repairs for another issue she had on the phone. After the upload, the phone was really unusable. When customer service was informed, they said there is a problem w/the uploads and they are working on it. They also stated she could not send it in for repair or replacement. Once they supposedly fixed the upload, my son in law spent close to 3 hours repeating the new upload. Nothing changed. Then of course when he called them back, a new rep told him "there is just a problem w/our new upload" and that they would not replace or allow her to send in the phone for repair. We are furious at the repeated run around on Apple's technical errors with this.

Add 4 3g iphones to the problem! I am really tired of them trying to fix the issues with the 4.0....I DONT CARE ABOUT THE 4.0....I JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO USE MY 4 3G IPHONES, WHICH JUST RIGHT AFTER I BOUGHT OUR 4 3G IPHONES THEY COME OUT WITH THE NEW GLORIOUS 3GS, WHICH BEFORE IT CAME OUT THEY SAID THERE WOULD BE NO NEW IPHONE FOR A FEW YEARS!! THERE WAS A SMALL WHITE LIE BY BOTH AT&T AND APPLE! THEN SHORTLY AFTER THE 3GS THEY COME OUT WITH THE 4.0???? WHAT HAPPENED TO CUSTOMER LOYALTY? LIKE AN IDIOT I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT AND APPLE MACBOOK, WHICH I REGRET DOING BECAUSE I COULD HAVE USED THAT MONEY TO BUY 4 NEW CELL PHONES TO REPLACE OUR 4 3G PHONES THAT DONT WORK!!! I AM FURIOUS! AND FRUSTRATED!
And so none one attacks me for not letting you know what my iphone are doing and what I have done to troubleshoot and address this issue....
1. dropped calls, heck calls dont make it through half the time they go straight to voicemail
2. apps dont open when tried the first 4-5 times, they start, screen goes grey and home screen appears
3. texting is hard to open and when it finally comes up and you try to type you can type 3 or 4 words before the letters show up on the screen and then they disappear and you think they have deleted only to find out when you push send you've retyped those first 3-4 words. somehow they hide behind your typing window
4. you can only add 1 picture at a time to mms or email IF your lucky enough to get it to attach to the txt or email, but if you try to add a second pictures you lose the entire msg!
5. battery life exhausts itself insearch of signal continually and from trying to open apps
6. in the middle of using an app it closes and you find your self starting over
7. did i say extreme delay in every area of my phone
8. when pressing home key it does nothing, nothing, nothing so i do a soft reset daily 3-4 times
9. there have been occasions when i have opened an app and it has shut down my phone
10. when i open an app for some strange reason itunes login appears and will keep reappearing until i enter my password

shall i go on.....?

i have spoken to apple, troubleshoot, reset, lost all info when i actually went into an apple store and had to pay for my apps all over again, i was told my iphone had a virus, so i went to a second apple store (this was while we were in vallejo california working) so i have been to 2 apple stores for help and have gone to at&t and of course they cant really do much but tell you to call apple and do soft resets and tell you to do a restore.

so, what do you suggest? i am truly upset as you can see! i know this is not any fault of you. i would like to be shown the same gratitude by APPLE that i have shown APPLE by buying their product because i assumed they were the best. but as the saying goes when you assume things.....

++++++++++

I wouldn't call it Vista (or as I like to say, Millinium edition for dummies) but it has its bugs, but so did 3.1. We had to wait more than a month to fix Exchange calendar problems. Be patient. 3GS v4.01.

As with all the complaints I ever heard from iPhone user, they don't affect me for whatever reason (Lucky me?!).
I just have updated my 3GS with iOS4.0.1 and used before from the 1st available day on iOS4 without any issues.
Even during the travel in Italy with using of Navigation, Mobile Internet and Messaging everything worked fine and reliable.
Furthermore all my apps still run and the folder-option is a big help.
So over all, I am happy to made the move.

Suddenly my 3GS sucks, big time. My battery has to be charged at least twice a day. My mail and text messages can take 24 hours to get somewhere.
